Red Iron Burgers, Uxbridge

Sometimes I feel as though we take living in such a multicultural city for granted. We have all the best halal food at our doorstep in every cuisine you could imagine, for every person’s taste – fine dining? Check! Burgers? Check! Afternoon Tea? Check!

Having said that we all have a preference, and burgers were never mine. But with my sister visiting from Hawaii, where halal meat is scarce, all she wanted to eat was chicken and beef in any shape, form or portion for that matter. So for the last few weeks before Ramadan, we’ve been eating at all the places that I wouldn’t usually.

We headed over to Red Iron Burgers in Uxbridge for our last meal before Ramadan starts, and weren’t disappointed once we eventually found it. I knew it was near the high street but almost missed it as they are undergoing construction of the site, so have no logo up front. We eventually found it and were shown to our table and started ordering.

Unfortunately, we had a heavy halwa puri breakfast in typical desi style, so couldn’t order more than the burgers themselves…

Red Iron Burger

The Red Iron Burger was epic – probably one of the best I have tasted in London (although I haven’t tasted many). Their signature burger boasts a mixture of different cheeses oozing from the fat piece of beef that is enough to make anyone drool. The beef was perfect, not too tough and not too soft. Cooked just right. It was a BIG burger to say the least and satisfied 100%.

Cheese Steak and Oreo Milkshake

I went for the Cheese Steak, Red Iron Style, which came in a a baguette. It was monstrous! Each piece of baguette was filled to the brim with steak and oozing with cheese. I ordered the sweet potato fries (my weakness) and both were to perfection. The cheese steak sandwich was so filling that just one piece was enough for me, I couldn’t even touch the other piece! This dish took me right back to the streets of NYC where at one point the only halal food you could find was Turkish carts that sold Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches.. they were amazing and so was this. YUM!

I need to give a shoutout to the sweet potato fries here.. I’ve had them before in other places but this was something else! They were so delicious, cooked to perfection and went so incredibly well with the cheese steak. That along with a fat Oreo milkshake gave me a full on foodcoma! (Need. Bed. Now.)

The lovely manager was so sweet and offered to show me the new re-construction of the extension of the restaurant which will go live to the public in a few weeks. All I can say about the new restaurant is this – 1) it is so different to the rest of the restaurant and 2 It looks AMAZING and I was so very pleasantly surprised and 3) you NEED to check it out once launched. I will definitely be going back to check out the newer, better version of Red Iron Burgers.
