Eek it’s been so long since I wrote one of these I don’t even know what I’m doing anymore but here goes anyways …
2019 has been a great year already. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know I’ve been a bit AWOL for the last few months. No reason apart from the fact that social media was consuming my life and I just wanted to regain that control of my life again. I genuinely didn’t know how to live outside of my phone and felt so liberated to go to a restaurant and not feel the need to post every single move. But when I visited Jak’s with a friend of mine, I genuinely couldn’t help myself!
The food is halal (although they do have an extensive alcoholic menu and a huge wall to wall bar!). But I heard they were known more for their desserts anyway. So off we trotted down to the mean streets of Mayfair (not really, it’s right next to Bond Street station, which happens to be 5 mins from where I work!) We were seated downstairs and were so hungry, I knew exactly what I wanted to order (I know I say that about every restaurant I go to, but your girl’s gotta eat!). So, I ordered the fillet of beef (£22.50), which looked something like this …
My friend got the Ribeye steak (£19.00) but unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of that. The main meals were both good, but not amazing. My meat is always rare, but this one was more medium than rare which was a little disappointing but it wasn’t bad by any means. There was actually a LOT on the plate which I obviously couldn’t finish so I guess you get your money’s worth!
Onto desserts… ohhh myyy good Lord! So I heard the cheesecake was good, so I ordered the cheesecake and my friend got the tiramisu.
Guys… when I say that this is by far the best cheesecake I have ever had, I need you not to trust me and go and try it for yourself! Please! It looked sub-standard but as soon as I took my first bite.. oh GOSH! I stopped mid sentence (of what was a very very interesting conversation!), the hairs at the back of my neck stood up, and it was as if my taste buds were just jumping for joy!!! By far, my favourite desserts in London! (Even trumped the matcha tiramisu at Oliver Maki!!!)
Overall, I’d say the menu at Jak’s is very ordinary, the food is nice but not amazing, the atmosphere was lovely, yet casual enough for an impromptu date night, or night out with a friend. But the cheesecake sold it for me.. I’d go back there again and again and again and … well you get the jist!
Food – 7 out of 10
Service – 7 out of 10
Atmosphere – 7 out of 10
Experience – 8 out of 10
Overall, giving Jak’s Mayfair a total TLH score of 7 out of 10. (9 out of 10 for the cheesecake alone!)
