“When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life”
And ain’t that the truth! There is something magical about this city – people say that New York is the city to be in, but the love of this city made NYC seem a bit meh! Maybe I’m biased but if I could pick any other city in the western world to live in, I’d still pick this one. Maybe it’s because it’s home, or maybe because all the people I love are here. Either way I love it unashamedly!
Oh and how Townhouse Kensington perfectly resonates with my feelings. Their London Landmark afternoon Tea is basically a guided tour into all the places a tourist needs to see in London! What’s not to love!
I was actually planning on taking my mummy to TK on my birthday but as it happened we both woke up sick (boo hoo) so we stayed in bed and watched trashy TV instead! 🙂 But I was meeting my dear friend @thestyletune . We always try and meet when she is visiting London from India, but we’d never actually been to an afternoon tea believe it or not. So off we went. It always surprises me that me and her met on Instagram but she’s more like a cross border sister now! I live that we rarely speak in English, that we have never been to each other’s countries but still understand everything about them. 🙂
So…
The Decor
So so cute.. the outside was bright and Tiffany-esque, the inside rooms were pretty with a twist in every room. A like Instagrammable, by very understatedly so.
The Food
Overall, it was so good. All the meat except the beef is halal.
I loved that they really stuck to the theme, the stand was in the shape of London Eye, all the little cakes were in the shape of something iconic:
– Red postbox
– The Shard
– Big Ben
– The Gherkin
Savoury
We were given some pre afternoon tea treats with a quiche, a twist on mushroom voul-e-vant and a fish cake.
The sandwiches were also spot on – one of my favourites was a simple salmon cream sandwich but the attention to detail was lovely as they had a different bread on the top and a different one on the bottom! Genius!
Scones
Oh but the scones! It’s been a while since I’ve had such good scones. But more than the scones the clotted cream was perfect in texture, temperature, consistency! Just amazing!
Side note – how do you pronounce scones?? It’s it “scahwns” or is it “scowns”?! Someone put me out my misery haha!
Overall
I absolutely loved everything about this place – I’ve thought long and hard about what I didn’t like and I can’t. Genuinely can’t. Like I’ve tried, but there’s nothing. I loved the decor, the food, the concept was just perfect, the service was lovely (they even let me unplug the lamp in the room so I could plug in my charger!!!! What!!) I think if I really had to try hard to be critical I’d say they need a wider/better choice of teas but that’s just me being bratty if I’m honest!
The afternoon tea was priced at £42 per person (plus service).
